Mikhail Sergeevich Tolstick or better known by the nom de guerre GIVI was a commander of the Donetsk People's Republic's separatist battalion of troops in the war in the Donbass and was known for his charismatic personality. He was also one of the main figures in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. However, many people recognize Tolstick as a brutal killer, or vice versa, as a militiaman and defender.
Proceeding from Aidwiki, Thursday, February 24, 2022, Tolstick was born on July 19, 1980 in the city of Ilovsk, located in the Donetsk region, Tolstick grew up in a dysfunctional family, his parents were heavy drunks, his father and mother also beat him every day. In a somewhat chaotic family, Tolstick is a teenager who is known to be lazy to study, often skipping class, and has also been found to have tried drugs and become intoxicated while at school.
In his interviews with Komsomolskaya Pravda and other Russian media, Tolstick claimed that he was from Ilovsk and served in the Ukrainian army from 1998 to 2000.
Before leaving the army, Tolstick attended a technical school, and in 1998 he was drafted into the Ukrainian Armed Forces for two years.
He was assigned to the Desna, where he took the position of tank commander. After the European Square, people's riots began in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Kyiv. Volunteer data men gathered in these two areas, where Tolstick became a battalion commander with the title of GIVI.

In January 2015, several videos appeared of Tolstick physically torturing prisoners captured in the Second Battle of Donetsk Airport. Tolsikh clearly identified himself before grabbing prisoners' faces, brandishing daggers, slashing military insignia and forcing prisoners to eat them.
Oleksandra Matveychuk, head of the Center for Civil Liberties in Kyiv, called the video a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, and said she was currently attending the grounds for the trial.
In 2016, the Ukrainian Military Prosecutor's Office accused Tolstick of suppressing prisoners of war and murder, and was threatened with a long prison sentence.
Givi does not tell much about his personal life, but it is known that he married in 2001 and has a son named Sergey. But it is clear that the marriage did not last long and it was reported that he divorced his wife.
Tolstec supported Russian politics, in particular the Liberal Democratic Party, led by Vladimir Zhirinovsky, and did not even recognize the new Ukrainian government due to the instability and devastation of that time.
On February 8, 2017, while working in his office in Donetsk, it was announced that Tolstick had died from an explosion caused by an RPO-A Shmel launcher fired from an unknown distance.
Ukrainian parliament officials accused Ukrainian forces of carrying out the attack, while security officials in Ukraine claimed it was the result of a dispute in the lower house. In 2022, journalist Yuri Putusov claimed that Tolstick was killed by the counterintelligence units of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) approved by then-President Petro Poroshenko.
